These movies are what dreams are made of, movies that tug your heartstrings and make you invested in the story and the characters. The best movies are always the stories that you can either relate to or are exactly what you want your life to be like. They get at the core of you and uncover why love is such a potent and driving emotion. So get the popcorn ready, dim the lights and cuddle up next to your sweetheart.  Let these movies capture you in their elegance, fun and aching sadness. In no particular order, here are some of the most romantic films ever made.

Titanic

This behemoth, which at the time, was the top-grossing film of all time, is a feast for the eyes. From the stunning special effects to the class-breaking love story at its center, this movie rightly captured the hearts and imaginations of millions worldwide. It combines history, romance, friendship, social commentary and jaw-dropping images. A long movie, but your patience will be rewarded in the end.

Amelie

The French do romance better than anyone, and it's apparent in this delightful, witty and very sweet movie starring the revelatory Audrey Tatou. Her beguiling smile and charm in this film made her a star worldwide, and with good reason. This move shows us how love affects every corner of a country already infatuated with all things romantic. A breezy, fun and very sweet movie that is smarter and more energetic than the average romance film.

Mughal-E-Azam

This Bollywood classic is the standard among Hindi films for its stunning visuals, acting, writing and haunting songs. Starring Dilip Kumar and Madhubala as young star-crossed lovers, this classic takes us across beautiful palaces, war-torn countries, courtesan dens, and the mirrored halls of powerful royalty. Madhubala in particular has the role of a lifetime as Anarkali, a young courtesan in the court of a powerful prince, played by the sublime Dilip Kumar. Their love, which blossoms against all odds, has been the standard against which all Bollywood romances are made.

The Notebook

This weeper has all the trappings of the cliché romantic movie, but it somehow overcomes all of them with the sweet story at its center. About a young couple who come from two totally different backgrounds, the pair falls madly in love only to be separated and brought back together through a series of circumstances and their constant devotion to one another. The ending is one of the most touching scenes captured on screen, and Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams have a sizzling chemistry which can't be denied.

Pride and Prejudice

This 2005 English film starring Keira Knightley as the stubborn and intelligent Elizabeth Bennet is an elegant, well-crafted and true-to-the-book adaptation of Jane Austen's beloved novel. Probably the best movie that's been made from any of Austen's works, this film combines lush scenery, old English and extraordinary acting. The love that blossoms between Elizabeth and the stoic Mr. Darcy is at times reserved, conflicting and utterly magical.
