It's inevitable that life will throw everything it's got at you. And when you're a couple, these everyday obstacles, the rare calamities, the personal disasters—they can start tearing you apart day by day.

It cant be stressed enough how important it is to stay together as a team and fight through these adversities, and learning how they can bring you together in a more solid and supportive relationship. There really isn't a formula for handling life's obstacles a certain way.

Each event and situation is unique to each individual, but these are just a few ways to guide you on your way to using these events to bring you closer together:

Communicate

Really talk to one another, describe your emotions and feelings, and let that other person in. In a chaotic time, it's so nice to have someone there to just listen and be there. Having a good person on hand will really be able to help you get through anything. It will also let the other person know that you trust them and can let them in, making your relationship deeper on another level.

Take a getaway

If it's possible, try going away from it all, and as a couple, go on vacation. If there's something happening that is really out of your control and which you cant do anything about, a nice getaway may be what you need to clear your head and come to terms with it. Try going somewhere that's not distracting and is known for its serenity. After all, there's nothing like a vacation to put things into perspective. Just take some time off to recharge yourself and your relationship by taking long walks on the beach, talking over dinner, and going new places.

Look through all your options together

If there's a big decision that needs to be made, don't jump the gun and make it for the two of you. Talk to each other, look at all options reasonably and logically and try to come up with a mutual decision that will benefit you both.

Treat them the way you would want to be treated

In other words, don't take out all your frustration and anger out on them. This is one of the biggest problems couples face when they are going through major life-altering events. They take out their fear and frustration out on each because of one simple reason—they know they can. Try to realize that you're both in the same boat and have the same goals. Use this to you advantage and realize you have a team built in here and treat them with the kindness and respect they deserve. If you find yourself getting angry, pause, breathe, and then explain that it's not them that's making you like this, it's the situation.
